While the length of the menstrual cycle is on average 28 days, it can vary anywhere from 20 to 40 days. Menstrual cycles longer than six weeks are considered unusual.

Many things can cause a woman's period to be late, including stress, exercise, and dieting.

Menopause, the ending of periods, typically does not occur until the late 40s or early 50s. But, in the time leading up to menopause the menstrual cycle may change, becoming lighter, heavier or longer.

It's hard to know exactly what the cause is of your wife's change in cycles, but it might not be a bad idea to see an ob/gyn for an evaluation.

Best of luck,
