I have had my IUD since 2005 The Doctor told me to have it removed in Feb.2010. Here it is Mar.2010. Whats the side effects I need to look for?

You have not said what kind of IUD you have, but if the doctor says that it must be removed in five years, then you probably have the Mirena IUS. Mirena works in two ways, one as an IUD and another as a form of hormonal birth control. Mirena contains hormonal contraceptive chemicals that are released into the uterus, and small amounts enter the blood stream.

There are no additional side effects from keeping it in too long, except that the hormonal contraceptive is used up, so the IUD may be less effective. Talk to your doctor about having the IUD removed.
