CDC Report - Young People Opting for Oral Sex
A recent report released by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) on March 3, 2011 indicated that young people are waiting to have sexual intercourse and are trying oral sex first. It also stated that more men and women are engaging in same sex encounters.
Statistics
The CDC gathered their statistics by interviewing thirteen thousand and five hundred (13,500) men and women between the ages of fifteen and forty-four. More than half of the participants (both male and female) under the age of twenty-four reported having oral sex before sexual intercourse. The report also stated that three times as many of the women over the age of 18 in the group reported being bisexual compared to the men in the group.
CDC STD Report
The CDC estimates that 19 million sexually transmitted infections occur each year, along with 50,000 new diagnoses of HIV infection. One function of the report is to provide public health researchers with information to develop prevention strategies targeting high-risk groups, lead author Anjani Chandra said.
Conclusion
Experts are concerned about the number of teens who are engaging in sex and teens do not see oral sex as sex. Although, sexually transmitted diseases can still be spread through oral sex the number of unplanned pregnancies has decreased.
